CENTER CITY COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
April 11, 2006
Present: Larry Field, Marshall Field, Bob Flynn, Janet Leggat, and Bill Lipchitz.
The meeting opened at 8:30 AM.
The meeting was devoted to creating an outline for a work plan for the year that would be presented to the Stakeholders Group at the April meeting. Several potential goals were discussed including: making downtown more pedestrian friendly (the crosswalk issue); study and make recommendations on developing Paige Street and surrounding area; integrating residents into the downtown (newcomers night type activities); developing a link between the Lawrence Mill area and Merrimack Street; planning for the expansion of the downtown resulting from the JAM area development; and taking a position on the potential move of the High School out of the downtown.
Specific activities, some of which were suggested at the last meeting, would include working with DPD on its recent survey of downtown residents, getting a study done about the crosswalks in the downtown and suggesting improvements beyond repainting the lines such as signage and education about use of crosswalks; sponsoring forums on downtown development and encouraging the restriction of first floor space to retail activities, becoming more involved in Destination World, and working with the DLBA and the DNA to vet issues and come to a consensus for action in order to build support for good ideas for the downtown.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM.
