CENTER CITY COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
February 4, 2003

Present: Peter Aucella, Colleen Cox, Fr. John Cox, Ken Lavallee, Janet Leggat, Bill Lipchitz, Joe Lipchitz, Kathy Muldoon, and Susan Siopes.

The meeting opened at 8:35 AM with Bill commenting on the Winterfest celebration and the fine traditions Lowell is establishing for itself. The open skating at the Arena was also seen as a major asset.

Next week the annual meeting will take place at Fortunato's at 8:30 am and Nancye Tuttle has agreed to be the main speaker. CCC will be presenting a plaque to her for her contributions in support of the arts in the city. DPD will also be presented with a plaque for its work, spearheaded by Colin McNiece in completing the Downtown Plan.

Father John Cox suggested some recognition as well for those whose collaborative efforts have improved the downtown area. The CCC readily agreed to three of his suggestions: the Middle Street area groups and businesses, Kathy Lantagne, and UTEC. The participants along the Middle Street area include: The Revolving Museum, the Quilt Museum, The Higher Ground, The Ayer Lofts Association, Fortunato's, Middlesex Community College, Evos, Capos, The Bombay Mahal and the Old Court.

The question of how to recognize a large number was settled with the idea of individual certificates to the participants for their efforts that have helped revitalize this key area.

In a similar fashion CCC agreed that UTEC should be awarded such a certificate for their contributions for providing a safe haven for the youth, adding to the public safety, and generally enhancing the quality of life in the downtown.

Kathy Lantagne shall be similarly awarded for her efforts in providing excellent communication among the downtown groups.

Colleen Cox will ask Molly Sheehy to introduce Nancye Tuttle, and Fr. Cox agreed to present the certificates to the Middle Street Collaboration.

Some discussion ensued about the general order of events at the annual meeting, and it was also agreed to nominate Captain Susan Siopes to the Board of Directors.

Ted Levash dropped by just in time to clarify the recipients of certificates for the Ayer Lofts. Ted will be noted along with Mark Caputo and Brian Wyman.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 am.

The next meeting of the CCC will be
