CENTER CITY COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
May 14, 2002
Present: Colleen Cox, Marshall Field, Robert Flynn, Ken Lavallee, Joe Lipchitz, and Bill Lipchitz.
Today's meeting was held at the Lowell Small Business Assistance Center.
Bill began the meeting with a discussion of the new Lowell Heritage Partnership and its purpose to enhance the preservation not only of downtown but of the neighborhoods as well. The emphasis on that preservation will be on the environmental, physical and cultural aspects of Lowell. An endowment fund has been established for the awarding of grants to support that purpose. The Center City Committee is a founding member and holds a seat on the Board of Directors.
Kathy Lantagne informed Bill via email that the DPD has completed a parking study. The committee is interested in having a member of DPD present the findings to us at the June 4th meeting.
Also for the June 4th meeting we shall invite Jerry Beck of 22 Shattuck St to discuss his plans for the revolving museum.
Colleen mentioned a new CAD business downtown run by Al Chisholm who had chosen Lowell because of its federal designation and the opportunities that that affords him.
Ken Lavallee noted the investigation is going forward on the incident at the Parking Garage where a metal grate was thrown from the roof, hitting an occupied car. It appears to have been a random rather than a targeted event. Further discussion ensued on traffic problems in general and what it would take to synchronize all traffic lights. Bob Flynn noted that the project would so large that it would have to be implemented in stages. Bob also mentioned a new photographic and mapping system that his group will be using and invited all to a demonstration.
Bill noted that Tom Galligani is moving on to Lawrence to a new position there. All wish him well.
The meeting adjourned at 9:42 AM.
