The meeting opened at 8:30 AM.

Jamie started off the meeting talking about the areas he is targeting for improvement in the downtown as part of Goal 3 in the Annual Workplan.  Jamie selected the intersection of Prescott and Central as an important area that can be improved on.  The present way-finding sign blocks the view of the bell, and it was suggested that the bell be lit up at night.  Other changes to that area were discussed.  Jeff Speck will be presenting his plan at the Lowell Plan breakfast in September.  The area on French Street along the Ayotte Garage across from Lowell High was also brought up as an area that needs to be cleared out and is very visible to tourists and visitors to the city.  Other areas include the space behind the Leo Roy Garage and the fountain on the corner of Shattuck and Market Streets.

Bill talked about the upcoming Stakeholders’ Meeting June 29th.  George suggested having people leading the workplan subcommittees talk about their goals and progress.  It was suggested having James Erickson talk about urban renewal and the Hamilton Canal District.  George suggested having a “round table group” to talk about what’s going on in Lowell during the summer months, highlighting the “Summer of Fun”.  People suggested to participate are Deborah Belanger of the CVB, someone from the Tsongas Arena, Sue Andrews from the National Park, and George Marciano from the Summer Music Series.  Other suggestions were LZ Nunn from COOL and someone representing the Water Festival.

Bill mentioned that the Welcome to Lowell subcommittee needs to get started planning the Welcome event aimed at the students who will be coming in.

George brought in an announcement about Lowell’s Art Walk Kick-off taking place June 24th from 5pm to 7pm at Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union at 1 Tremont Place.

Steve mentioned that during Folk Festival 16 vendors will be participating in the courtyard behind the Visitor’s Center.  He also mentioned that ALL is still looking for space.

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM.
